crazy swap file usage - CentOS

Post by sco8834net006 »

Hi,

Have just installed mantisbt v1.2.9 on two different CentOS server VM's each with 2x CPU, 4gig RAM and 4gig swap:

- CentOS v5.5 with php-5.1.6 / httpd-2.2.3 / mysql-5.0.77
- CentOS v6.2 64 bit with php-5.3.3 / httpd-2.2.15 / mysql-5.1.52

On both servers straight after installation and clicking around a few pages in mantisbt the swap file usage increases from nothing to around 1gig within 2minutes. After a few hours it has gone as high as about 3.5gig of the 4gig (before we stopped it). This is a blank mantisbt install with no customisation of anything or even any issues logged or accounts created.

Restarting apache results in swapfile usage dropping to less than 100Mb immediately.

Once you start clicking around in mantis the swap file gets utilised to alarmingly high levels again (over 1gig) within a few minutes.

These are both rather busy production servers running a network monitoring system and usually use no swap at all.

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on?

Thanks.
